Title I Information

Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) provides financial assistance to states and school districts to meet the needs of educationally at-risk students.
 
The goal of the Title I program is to provide extra instructional services and activities which support students.

1. Classroom teachers meet with the MTSS team to discuss  a student’s needs based on assessment data.
2. The team works to determine the reason why the student has not made adequate progress.
3. The team determines an appropriate intervention for the student according to their needs.
4. The team reconvenes in 6-8 weeks to reevaluate the student’s response to the intervention.

Parent communication is ongoing- phone calls, emails, notes, and progress reports. Your child’s classroom teacher will keep you informed throughout the process.

Research shows that how well students do in school depends a great deal upon how much their parents/guardians get involved in their education. Some ways you can become involved include:

• Reading to or with your child
• Reading information in your child’s planner/AVID binder, classroom newsletters and the weekly Family Pride Newsletter
• Attending parent-teacher conferences, Prairie Point family events, completing surveys and providing feedback throughout the year
• Keeping your student’s teacher informed about events in his or her life which may affect his/her performance at school
• Joining & attending Prairie Point PTA meetings to learn about what’s happening at school

Each year, we will hold an annual meeting in August to inform you of our school’s participation in Title I, explain Title I requirements, and explain your right to be involved.

This annual meeting will be advertised on our school newsletter.  

We will offer a flexible number of meetings at various times throughout the year to allow you to provide suggestions and participate in decisions relating to the education of your child.

This will include, but not be limited to, parent teacher conferences, annual academic nights, and literacy events.

During our annual meeting in August and throughout the year, you will get information about our Title I program.

Information about Title 1 services will also be included in our weekly school newsletter.

• You will be offered the opportunity to be involved in the planning, reviewing, and improvement of Title I programs by attending the annual meeting in August.
• You will be invited to reading workshops throughout the year designed by the Reading Interventionist to teach you strategies to support your child at home with their reading. Using our Parent Engagement Title 1 funds all parents that attend will be given hands on supplies to support their readers at home. Parents have voiced that they prefer these events be virtual and prerecorded so that they can review strategies as needed. We also discussed providing a follow up with a question-and-answer forum after the event through Teams for further support.
• Tier III reading students will be given a bag of books that are at their instructional and independent reading level. Students will be encouraged to take these books home and practice the reading skills and strategies they are working on at home. They will also be given a folder with Pathways to Reading vowel practice activities to work on at home.
• Throughout the year, we will send home progress monitoring reports to inform parents of their child’s academic progress. These reports include goals, strategies, curriculum, and information on the student’s progress.
• You will be offered student conferences to discuss your child’s progress and areas of need and areas of strength.

• You will be provided a description and explanation of the curriculum in use during interventions, the forms of assessments used to measure student progress, and proficiency levels students are expected to meet. This will be in the form of a progress reports and during conferences.
• You will be able to view what students are learning each night in your child’s AVID communication folders/binders.
• Annually we will hold our Academic Night to update parents on their child’s curriculum. 
• Curriculum can be accessed online on the Park Hill website.
• A Parent Information Evening is held in September to inform parents of their child’s curriculum. 

Each year families will receive an NWEA report (K-5) and/or MAP assessment (3-5). All
tier 3 reading students will receive a reading report three times each year showing
progress.

• At the end of the year, you will be able to provide feedback on our Title I program survey.
• Comments and data from the feedback will be used to improve our School Parent Involvement Plan for the following year.
• Parents will be given the opportunity to provide feedback by participating in the Panorama Survey. 
• Surveys will be provided during Reading Events so that we are able to see what parents appreciate and other ways we could improve these events.

The Reading Interventionist will provide you with online videos and resources on Seesaw or Schoology on how to best assist your child at home with their reading skills.
