Health Room

About Your Nurse

Welcome to Prairie Point Elementary School.  My name is Hannah Irving and I am the Health Room nurse. I look forward to meeting and taking care of your children throughout the school day. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me. You may contact me Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

As a school nurse, I provide limited basic care to children who may be sick or injured and assist in administering appropriate medications, and treatments. I do not make diagnoses, as I am not a physician. The care provided is according to the guidelines outlined by the district:

·         Provide first aid and/or emergency care in case of injury or illness to students in keeping with approved policies and procedures.

·         Administer medications during school hours as prescribed if necessary.

·         Maintain current and accurate health records on each student.

·         Ensure compliance with state laws regarding immunization requirements.

·         Screening for health conditions in accordance with Board policy and state recommendations.

Immunizations
All students at Prairie Point must have their immunizations. These immunizations MUST be up to date for your child to attend school in the state of Missouri.  Please contact the health room if you have any questions regarding your child’s immunizations.

Medications
Medications to be given at school must be brought to the health room and picked up by a parent, guardian, or designated adult.  Students should NOT be carrying medications to and from school.  A Medication Authorization Form must be completed and signed for each medication to be given.  These forms must be completed before any medication will be administered at school.

Special Health Needs
If your child has a medical condition such as asthma, severe allergy, diabetes, seizures, or any other condition which may affect their day at school, please contact your child’s health room staff to complete a medical condition worksheet.  A meeting may be scheduled to discuss your child’s needs and an Individualized Health Plan will be created to meet his or her needs during school.

Illness-Related Absences
Regular attendance at school is crucial to learning and developing good academic practices; however if your child is ill with signs of a possibly contagious illness (such as fever >100.0, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) he/she should NOT come to school.  Students should remain home until fever-free/symptom-free for 24 hours without medication.

Please do not hesitate to contact your health room staff with any questions and/or concerns regarding your student.
